Buckeye Institute Names New President
Nationally Respected Conservative Policy Advocate Tapped to Lead Think Tank
COLUMBUS - The Buckeye Institute for Public Policy Solutions today announced the appointment of nationally respected conservative fiscal policy advocate Matt Mayer as its new president. Mayer is an author, former attorney and university professor, and an experienced public policy implementer.
"After an exhaustive nationwide search and discussions with scores of impressive candidates, we strongly believe Matt is the best qualified person to lead the Institute at such a critical time in Ohio's history," Buckeye Institute Chairman Rick Segal said. "The Board of Trustees was extremely impressed by his unflinching devotion to improving the lives of hard working Ohioans. Matt is simply the right person at the right time for both the Institute and our state."
"Ohio used to be that place where the dreams of our best and brightest were attainable through hard work, perseverance and the freedom to make individual choices," Mayer said. "From the decrease in economic freedom and competitiveness to the absence of job creation and entrepreneurship to the lack of real government reform and accountability, Ohio is in pretty bad shape. I am committed to helping our state's leaders move Ohio forward with innovative and common sense solutions to the problems faced by its businesses and families."
Mayer is a Visiting Fellow at The Heritage Foundation, and a former adjunct professor at The Ohio State University. He has a long history of developing and implementing successful public policy initiatives. Working for former Colorado Governor Bill Owens, he helped lead that state's effort to streamline regulations and remove governmental roadblocks hindering businesses.
Mayer served as Counsel to the Deputy Secretary at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. He is the author of the book Homeland Security and Federalism: Protecting America from Outside the Beltway, as well as numerous public policy reports.
Mayer was selected after an extensive nationwide search that included advertisements in the National Review, Weekly Standard and Reason Magazine combined with postings on libertarian and conservative job banks. Mayer has a Juris Doctor from The Ohio State University and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Dayton. He was born in Dayton and raised in Westerville, Ohio.
The Buckeye Institute for Public Policy Solutions is a nonpartisan research and educational institute devoted to individual liberty, economic freedom, personal responsibility and limited government in Ohio.
