The Buckeye Institute Files Amicus Brief Calling for an End to Government Regulatory Overreach
Jul 05, 2018Columbus, OH – On Thursday, The Buckeye Institute filed a new amicus brief with the United States Supreme Court in the case California Sea Urchin Commission v. Susan Combs, asking the court to put an end to judicial deference to executive agencies’ interpretation of the law.
In referring to Chevron v. Natural Resource Defense Council (the 1984 case creating the deference rule), The Buckeye Institute’s president and chief executive officer Robert Alt said, “The practice of courts relying on agencies to interpret the law has proven to be dysfunctional, inconsistent with our constitutional system, and has led to the erosion of individual liberties. It is time for the Supreme Court to junk Chevron.”
