The Buckeye Institute Reacts to Ohio House Votes on Spending and Occupational Licensing
Feb 07, 2024Columbus, OH – The Buckeye Institute reacted to votes in the Ohio House of Representatives on Ohio House Bill 2—spending the One-Time Strategic Community Investment Fund—and Ohio House Bill 238, reducing Ohio’s occupational licensing burdens.
Ohio House Bill 2
“Ohio House Bill 2 spends too many state taxpayer dollars on projects that will have little statewide impact and fails to make a transformational investment in education,” said Rea S. Hederman Jr., vice president of policy at The Buckeye Institute. “As the Ohio Senate considers how to spend the One-Time Strategic Community Investment Fund, The Buckeye Institute looks forward to working with them to ensure taxpayer dollars help all education providers, not only district schools, expand facilities and increase school capacity, and that every child in every family in every community comes first.”
Ohio House Bill 238
“The policies in House Bill 238 are another welcome, and much needed, step on Ohio’s path towards eliminating barriers to work,” said Greg R. Lawson, a research fellow at The Buckeye Institute. “As work moves to the Ohio Senate, further licensing burdens can be cut or reduced—particularly trimming Ohio cosmetology license requirements—and The Buckeye Institute looks forward to working with lawmakers to make Ohio a more inviting state to earn a living.”
