The Buckeye Institute Unveils Updated Trailblazing Salary Database

Aug 23, 2023

Columbus, OH – On Wednesday, The Buckeye Institute unveiled its updated public salary database, which includes salary information through 2022 for public employees in Ohio’s K-12 public schools, state employees, Ohio’s public universities, and local governments in Akron, Canton, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, Dayton, Toledo, and Youngstown.

“In 2010, The Buckeye Institute made it easier for taxpayers to see how government officials were spending their money when it unveiled its groundbreaking online salary database,” said Trevor Lewis, an economic research analyst for the Economic Research Center at The Buckeye Institute. “Ten years later, The Buckeye Institute remains committed to increasing government transparency so citizens can hold their government accountable.”

The Buckeye Institute provides citizens with an easy-to-search database of public salaries for:

  • Ohio’s K-12 public schools, with salaries from 2007-2022;
  • Ohio’s state employees, with salaries from 2010-2022;
  • Ohio’s public universities, with salaries from 2011-2022; and
  • Ohio’s most populous cities in the state’s eight most populous metropolitan areas, with salaries from 2011-2022.

With nearly 18.7 million visits to its salary database, Buckeye is a recognized pioneer in increasing government transparency. Its work to make public information easily accessible was instrumental in the creation of the Ohio Check Book and has been praised by state officials.
